About the University
The University of Melbourne is a research university situated in Melbourne, Australia. It was founded in 1853 and is Australia’s second oldest university and the oldest in Victoria.

Moreover, the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities is released by National Taiwan University (NTU Ranking) and ranked the University of Melbourne as the 29th highest internationally and 1st domestically in 2018.
The University of Melbourne assesses the performance of scientific papers, and the indicators used are developed to compare both the quantity and quality of published scientific works by each university.
Besides, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) rates universities on variables, including both research output and citations. For 2018/19 it rated the University of Melbourne at number 57 in the world, and number 1 in Australia.

Requirements for Faculty of Science Postgraduate Writing Up Scholarship
To be qualified for the Faculty of Science Postgraduate Writing Up Scholarship, you need to:
- have submitted your Ph.D./MPhil thesis for examination and be awaiting the examination result
- not have been granted a similar award
- not undertake full-time or substantial regular part-time employment during the tenure of the award
- have submitted your thesis within three years and 10 months (FTE) candidature period, or one year and 11 months (FTE) for MPhil.
